Collaborative Spine receives research grant from Medtronic

The Collaborative Spine Research Foundation will receive up to $7 million during the next 3 years to fund cross-disciplinary research from Medtronic’s Spine business. This funding will be used to award competitive, multi-year grants for independent, investigator-driven clinical spine research.

According to a press release, Collaborative Spine will provide up to $10 million for original research projects that address its research agenda. The foundation will have full and sole discretion in the selection of researchers and awarding grants of up to $300,000 per year. Collaborative Spine anticipates a solicitation for research grant applications to be published by May 1, with funding to begin by Sept. 1.

“Collaborative Spine is plowing new ground as a multispecialty organization,” Charles Branch Jr., MD, secretary/treasurer of Collaborative Spine, stated in the release. “While we bridge two major specialties, we represent a united pathway for industry and other interested parties to contribute to the development of the science that will transform patient care.”
