ArthroplastyWatch.com, a website that conveys information about joint arthroplasty product recalls, alerts, and other safety information, was recently launched.

Starting Feb. 1, 2013, ArthroplastyWatch.com, which operates out of the University of Lund, Sweden, will electronically collect and compile content from manufacturers, governmental and regulatory bodies, implant registers, scientific literature and other sources and display the pertinent recall and safety information. It will also include arthroplasty data for the last 3 months of 2012 and January 2013.

“ArthroplastyWatch will take information that is public, but make it findable,” Lars Lidgren, MD, PhD, member of the ArthroplastyWatch.com staff and Orthopaedics Today Europe Editorial Board member, told Orthopedics Today.

The arthroplasty implant safety or recall announcements listed at ArthroplastyWatch.com are color-coded based on the level of urgency of the news reported.

Per Kjaersgaard-Andersen

“We very much need this independent body. The information at ArthroplastyWatch will assist us in selecting prostheses for our patients that were not already identified as inferior by health authorities elsewhere in the world,” Per Kjaersgaard-Andersen, MD, Chief Medical Editor of Orthopaedics Today Europe and a member of the ArthroplastyWatch.com advisory board, told Orthopedics Today.
