Researchers found deficiencies in the quality and readability of ACL injury information found on the Internet, according to this study.
They conducted a search of available ACL information on the Internet using the top three search engines and four common ACL search terms. They identified 35 websites and assessed the results based on website interface and a content scoring guide.
The researchers concluded the information about ACL injuries found on the Internet was “unregulated, biased and of poor quality,” as stated in the abstract.
The researchers also found that the websites had lay authors or unidentified authors. The average content analysis score was 41.6 of 100 points and only one-third of the websites provided references to additional ACL information. The information was outdated and covered less than half the information important to females with ACL injuries, the researchers stated.
