FDA approves device for facet joint removal

Baxano Inc. received FDA clearance to market its new iO-Tome instrument for facet joint removal. According to a company press release, the iO-Tome instrument uses the company’s iO-Flex platform to deliver a new MicroBlade Shaver design configured to rapidly and precisely remove the facet joint.

“The iO-Tome represents a tremendous step forward into the fusion market for Baxano,” Tony Recupero, president and chief executive officer of Baxano, stated in the release. “The development of an efficient instrument that has the potential to save substantial operating room time, provide reproducible results, and is comparable with emerging spinal fusion technologies further highlights the capabilities of our core ‘inside-out’ technology platform.”
