Zimmer releases Patient Specific Instruments in Europe

Zimmer Holdings Inc. released their Zimmer Patient Specific Instruments, which employ MRI and preoperative planning tools to create custom guides that coincide with a patient’s anatomy, according to a company release. The guides for knee replacement surgery help surgeons perform accurate and safe procedures, and can be used in minimally invasive surgeries.

“Zimmer Patient Specific Instruments can assist in expediting the total knee replacement procedure for both surgeons and patients,” Jeff McCaulley, president of Zimmer Reconstructive, stated in the release. “This technology has been well received in the United States and we are excited to now make these instruments available to surgeons in Europe.”

The instruments are reportedly compatible with the Zimmer NexGen Complete Knee Solution and the Gender Solutions Natural Knee Flex systems.
