Radermacher joins ConforMIS scientific advisory board
Klaus Radermacher has joined the ConforMIS Scientific Advisory Board to participate in the next stage of innovation for ConforMIS patient specific implants and instrumentation, according to a company press release. Radermacher is chair of medical engineering at the Helmholtz-Institute for Biomedical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany.
ConforMIS has taken patient specific technology to a new level by not only pioneering new approaches for patient specific jigs, but also by developing truly patient specific implants, Radermacher stated in the release. ConforMIS combination of patient specific instruments and implants unlocks the full power of this technology. I look forward to participating in the development of future generations of this technology.
ConforMIS uses computer modeling and proprietary software to build a 3-D image of a patients knee from CT images. That image then guides the design and manufacture of an implant that conforms to the articular surfaces of the patients joint. Radermacher has worked on the design of individual templates for use in orthopedic surgery for nearly 20 years, according to the release. Radermacher has also made contributions to image guided surgery, surgical navigation and medical robotics.
