Popular, critical ExMex sessions return to 10th Congress

Two Experts Meeting Experts (ExMEx) sessions will be held on June 5, one which will focus on osteoporosis and another on diaphyseal pediatric lower limb fractures.

In osteoporosis, the number of fragility fractures is becoming of outmost importance for a continuously aging population. This is an increasing burden for both patients and for the public health system.

The surgical treatment of the osteoporotic fractures is full of special problems which result from biomechanical changes of the fractured osteoporotic bone. Looking to the management of the osteoporotic patients, the necessary cooperation with colleagues from internal medicine and geriatric in rehabilitation for example has to be stressed and will be discussed in the first ExMEx session on osteoporosis.

Like the osteoporotic patient, pediatric patients with diaphyseal fractures require special attention. This patient population will be discussed in a second ExMEx course, designed by EPOS in cooperation with EFORT.

Social pressure and economic problems faced by the different National Health Systems have had a major influence in the way these fractures are treated. In some cases, there has been a change of attitude from a nonoperative method to a more surgical approach. Through this course focusing on the pediatric patient, attendees will be able to answer several questions: Are we approaching these fractures in the best way by changing to an operative treatment? What are the indications for surgical treatment? If so, what are the best operative methods? Do they have specific indications?

These topics must be discussed among experts in these areas. Correct and competent messages, especially in the discussions with other engaged orthopedic surgeons, are basis of these ExMEx Forums.

To attend these ExMEx Forums, please register at the registration desk in Hall Z.
