Medtronic, Inc. recently launched the T2 Altitude Expandable Corpectomy Device in the United States and Europe. According to a company press release, the device is a self-locking, expandable vertebral body replacement cage for use in the thoracolumbar spine and provides spinal stabilization and corrections in patients suffering from a trauma or tumor disorder.

“T2 Altitude is a new option for surgeons who perform corpectomies, including through the use of minimally invasive techniques,” Doug King, senior vice president and president of Medtronic Spinal, stated in the release.

The self-locking mechanism eliminates the need for placing a set screw during surgery, according to the release. The device can be filled with bone graft after insertion and also after expansion, creating bone contact with the end plate and the opportunity for fusion to occur inside the device. It comes in multiple sizes and can be inserted from a posterior, anterior or lateral approach. The device is equipped with the Verifyi Implant Tracking System to enhance hospital efficiencies and support hospital-specific quality management.
