Medtronic Inc. has announced in a press release the European launch of its CD Horizon Fenestrated Screw Spinal System to be used in conjunction with its Fenestrated Screw Cement.

According to the Medtronic press release, the system provides surgeons with a solution for addressing patients with poor or compromised bone quality. It features a pedicle screw with additional holes in the tip to allow a specially formulated bone cement to be injected into a patient’s vertebral body. The cement then cures and provides fixation.

“This launch continues to demonstrate our commitment to global innovation,” Doug King, senior vice president and president of Medtronic Spinal, stated in a company release. “European surgeons will be the first to use this exciting new technology to provide enhanced treatment options to their patients.”

The European release will be followed by releases in India, Singapore and Australia. The product is not available in the United States.
