Medtronic, Inc. announced yesterday it will give $750,000 in grants through the Medtronic Foundation to support continued health care infrastructure development in Haiti.

According to a company press release, Partners in Health will receive $500,000 to help complete construction of a public hospital in the central plateau city of Mirebalais. The newly constructed Mirebalais Hospital will improve clinical care and technical capacity, allow for a wider array of diagnostics and therapeutics, and serve as a major teaching hospital to train nurses, medical students and resident physicians.

International Medical Corps will receive $250,000 to work with Haiti’s Ministry of Public Health and Population to develop professional development and training programs for practicing physicians in primary health care areas such as pediatrics, infectious diseases and obstetrics, and to develop policies that will improve health care delivery systems at the community level, the company said.
