Managing the Osteoarthritis Frontier: Pathophysiology, Etiology, and Treatment Options
Dear Colleague:
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting between 10 million and 16 million people in the United States alone. Patients with the disease frequently present with painful, swollen joints and are often limited in their ability to perform activities of daily living. The goal of osteoarthritis treatment is to reduce joint pain and inflammation while improving and maintaining joint function.
This supplement, “Managing the Osteoarthritis Frontier: Pathophysiology, Etiology, and Treatment Options,” contains articles that address the most recent research on the epidemiology, etiology, and pathophysiology of osteoarthritis; currently available treatment options and management strategies; a relevant case study; and ongoing clinical trials.
I hope that you find these articles informative in your ongoing understanding of osteoarthritis treatment and management. I would like to thank the contributors for their participation in this Orthopedics supplement and the sponsor, Wyeth.
