Corin Group announces global distribution agreement with MAKO Surgical

Corin Group PLC, a leading manufacturer and supplier of orthopedic devices, has entered into a 5-year global distribution agreement with MAKO Surgical Corp, according to a press release.

Under the terms of the agreement, Corin will supply MAKO with a hip implant system for use with MAKO's RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System. Corin's implant system will include the MetaFix hip system and the Trinity acetabular shell system. MAKO expects to include Corin hip implants among the hip systems available for use with the RIO following Corin's expected receipt of FDA 510(k) approval for certain Corin Trinity options, according to the release.

Subject to FDA clearance, MAKO is planning a commercial release of the Corin hip implant system in the United States for the second half of 2011. The agreement also allows for the potential future integration of other Corin implant systems, the company noted.

Russell Mably, Corin’s managing director stated, “This agreement marks a major advancement in our strategy as MAKO offer us the opportunity to position our high technology brands alongside the world’s most advanced robotic system. The partnership also complements the ongoing investment we have made in our own direct sales distribution, particularly in the United States … where MAKO already has significant presence”.
