Investigators of this retrospective study found lower rates of plate prominence and hardware removal in patients with a minimum 1-year follow-up who had precontoured plating rather than noncontoured plating for acute, displaced midshaft clavicle fractures.

The investigators compared the postoperative radiographs, range of motion and subjective outcomes of 28 patients who underwent precontoured plating with a cohort of 14 patients who received noncontoured plates.

Follow-up revealed that nine patients in each group reported prominent hardware and three underwent hardware removal. The investigators also found comparable postoperative range of motion, Simple Shoulder Test and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores for the groups.
