INDIANAPOLIS — The blue-green appearance of the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-day contact lens made it easier to see and may improve handling, especially among presbyopic patients, according to a poster presented at Academy 2024.
“We know that sometimes patients have trouble with insertion and finding the lens in the package, especially presbyopes, who have a harder time with their near vision,” Meredith Bishop, OD, MS, FAAO, senior manager of global professional education and development at Johnson & Johson Vision, told Healio. “Because of the unique tint of our lens, it actually helps make handling a little easier.”
To determine whether the appearance of Acuvue Oasys Max 1-day lenses (Johnson & Johnson) could affect lens handling, Bishop and colleagues collected data from habitual contact lens wearers included in a consumer study (n = 98), a randomized clinical study (n = 342) and a meta-analysis (n = 366).
In the consumer study, 65% of participants reported that the Acuvue lenses were easier to see in the package relative to the comparison lenses, and more than 90% reported that the color made the lenses easier to see.
In addition, more than 95% of participants in the randomized clinical study reported that the Acuvue lenses were easy to insert, and meta-analysis results showed that they had easier overall handling.
“The overall results suggest that because of the unique blue-green appearance of the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-day family of lenses, this could allow superior handling and may be particularly meaningful for the presbyopic patient,” Bishop said.
