INDIANAPOLIS — High-energy visible light-filtering multifocal lenses reduced glare disability and discomfort without affecting color perception, according to research presented at Academy 2024.
“We measured a number of visual parameters and found that the [high-energy visible light] absorbing lens had add-on benefits,” Billy Hammond, PhD, research professor in the department of psychology at the University of Georgia, said in this Healio video.
Hammond and colleagues conducted a study of 35 individuals with presbyopia who were randomly assigned to receive high-energy visible light filtering or clear multifocal lenses, followed by a 7-day washout before crossing over to the other lens.
The researchers found that the filtered lens was statistically superior to the control lens in reducing glare disability and glare discomfort, but did not affect color perception.
