The Vision Council has launched The Vision Council Foundation, a philanthropic arm that aims to bridge the gap between industry, eye care providers and consumers through educational programs, research and other opportunities.
“I love that my work goes toward making these invaluable resources possible,” Abigail Crosby, the foundation’s partnership and business development manager, said in a Vision Council press release. “For eye care companies and professionals, partnering with The Vision Council Foundation is a win-win because everything we do centers around improving the public’s access to eye care and the industry’s ability to provide it.”
According to the release, the foundation’s efforts include a range of awareness campaigns, including National Sunglasses Day and Vision 101, a comprehensive guide designed to help consumers understand eye health and common vision terms. A new website will serve as a hub for these campaigns and other resources.
The foundation also aims to address the shortage of eye care professionals through The Opening Your Eyes Scholarship Fund, which will provide financial assistance to high school seniors in underrepresented communities who go through opticianry school.
“The Vision Council Foundation is the manifestation of our mission to achieve better vision for better lives,” Ashley Mills, CEO of The Vision Council and The Vision Council Foundation, said in the release. “Everybody has a part to play in raising awareness about eye health and championing the many resources to address eye health needs. Our Foundation’s resources offer an easy pathway for individuals and organizations to join us in this commitment.”
