The American Optometric Association has launched The Eye, an educational tool that highlights the capabilities of human vision and the importance of maintaining eye health, the organization announced in a press release.
The Eye is part of AOA’s Eye Deserve More, a national awareness campaign that promotes comprehensive, in-person eye care as a key component of overall health and well-being.
“With the increasing reliance on technology, people are spending more time on their screens, which can lead to digital eye strain and cause significant discomfort,” Belinda R. Starkey, OD, who practices in Rogers, Arkansas, and serves as a member of the AOA Board of Trustees, said in the release. “Maintaining eye health is vital at every stage of life to prevent vision loss and enhance overall well-being. Our Eye Deserve More campaign and The Eye serve as powerful reminders that our eyes are one of the most valuable assets we have.”
According to the release, The Eye represents real functions of the human eye, including processing billons of pathways, recognizing familiar images and providing insight into more than 270 health conditions. It was created to draw parallels between current technology and the power of our eyes.
“Prioritizing in-person, comprehensive eye exams with a doctor of optometry ensures that we can safeguard the sophisticated tech we are all born with,” Starkey said in the release.
