RetinalGeniX Technologies has been granted a patent for its System and Method for Visualization of Ocular Anatomy, designed to aid in diagnosis of ocular and systemic diseases, according to a company press release.

“Timing in life is everything, and there couldn’t have been a better time for this patent to be awarded,” Jerry Katzman, MD, RetinalGeniX’s chairman, president and CEO, said in the release. “As per the RetinalGeniX platform, associating systemic disease with retinal imaging, as well as ocular disease through potential biomarkers, would be not only cost-effective and efficient but very practical to expand screening.”

According to the release, the device visualizes proteins in eye tissues and other biological matter and detects structural and molecular changes that may aid in diagnosis of underlying disease. It can identify changes in geography, including atrophy, emaciation and swelling, as well as hydration, innervations, inflammation, circulation and nerve conduction.

In addition, the company states that conformational diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s Disease, as well as ocular conditions like cataracts and retinitis pigmentosa, may be detected earlier by visualizing ocular anatomy.
