In honor of World Children’s Day, the World Council of Optometry launched a new pediatric resource, with clinical information, assessment tools and references for clinicians to expand quality eye care worldwide.

“World Children’s Day 2023 is an annual opportunity for each of us to advocate for the rights of children. Now is a time to consider how we can help protect and support our children so they can grow up to be productive and successful adults,” Sandra S. Block, OD, MEd, MPH, FAAO, FCOVD, president of the World Council of Optometry (WCO), said in an organization press release. “The World Council of Optometry supports efforts to ensure that vision development is considered as part of a child’s overall growth and development.”

According to the release, the resource is complementary to the existing International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness School Eye Health Guidelines, which can be found on the WCO website, and can assist clinicians in providing quality visual screenings and treatment for children across the globe.

“This resource will be valuable for everyone that wants to know more about the guidelines and equipment that is available for working with children,” Priya Morjaria, MSc, PhD, WCO public health committee chair, said in the release.
