LAS VEGAS — The foundation of dry eye care is based on “five pillars of wellness,” according to Laura M. Periman, MD.
Periman, founder and director of dry eye services and clinical research at Periman Eye Institute in Seattle, participated in a panel discussion on ocular surface disease at Vision Expo West. In this video, she told Healio that the five pillars of care are good sleep hygiene, good hydration, good nutrition, mindfulness and daily exercise.
She also discussed an “explosion of innovation in dry eye disease” that includes a new treatment for Demodex, a tear film stabilizer and a yet-to-be-approved anti-inflammatory.
