Lens technology company EnChroma has announced record support for International Color Blindness Awareness Month 2023, with more than 160 organizations and influencers pledging to raise awareness in September.

“That nearly four times the number of influencers and organizations are supporting this year’s color blindness awareness month demonstrates the growing recognition of color blindness’ prevalence and effects,” EnChroma CEO Erik Ritchie, said in a company press release. “We greatly appreciate that so many people and organizations are spotlighting color blindness in hopes it will spur educators, legislators and employers to take actions that mitigate the frustrations and challenges people with color vision deficiency experience every day.”

According to the release, one in 12 men and one in 200 women are affected by color blindness, which limits color vision to an estimated 10% of hues and shades. The condition affects 350 million people worldwide.

In partnership with museums, universities, businesses, libraries, parks, school districts and tourism agencies, EnChroma will raise awareness and educate the public through social media posts and other activities. Participating groups include Georgia O’Keefe Museum, Honeywell Aerospace, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, North Carolina State University, Boy Scouts of America and Washington Council of the Blind.

Organizations, businesses and individuals interested in supporting this effort are encouraged to sign up and pledge to make at least one social media post or undertake an activity to promote color blindness awareness during the month of September.
