WASHINGTON — Drug recognition evaluations that law enforcement officers perform include components similar to pupil testing and tracking, Harvey Richman, OD, and Maria Richman, OD, said in this Healio video at Optometry’s Meeting.

Testing includes pursuit eye movements, horizontal gaze nystagmus, pupillary assessment and near point convergence, Harvey Richman, of Shore Family Eyecare in Manasquan, New Jersey, said.

Maria Richman, who also practices at Shore Family Eyecare, said it is important to know the components of the evaluation and how law enforcement is using it, “so we can connect with our community.”
