VIDEO: Strive for authenticity as a social influencer

ATLANTA — Many of us are more of a social influencer than we realize, Ted McElroy, OD, said at SECO 100.

McElroy, a private practitioner from Tifton, Georgia, who is also program chair for SECO’s MedPro 360 business track, moderated a panel discussion on social influencers and shared three take-home points with Healio.

“Be who you are in real life when you’re on this particular platform, whether it’s TikTok or YouTube or Facebook or Instagram,” he said. “Make sure you’re authentic. Your followers are going to know.”

Use caution when deciding what to say “yes” to, McElroy said.

“If it’s a brand that you don’t believe in and you say ‘yes’ to them, you may have excluded yourself from a brand that you do believe in that you really want to help out,” he said.

Lastly, do no harm to yourself or your family when putting in the hard work it takes to build a platform.
