LAS VEGAS — CooperVision announced the expansion of its MyDay toric contact lens line to match the range of the Biofinity toric2, as well the addition of MyDay Energys to its product portfolio, during Vision Expo West.

“A patient who’s been wearing Biofinity toric can easily transition into MyDay toric,” Michele Andrews, OD, CooperVision Americas vice president of professional and government affairs, told Healio in an interview. “It’s an easy transfer for the practice and the patient.”

Percy Lazon de La Jara, PhD, director of research programs for CooperVision, told Healio, “We were able to transfer the excellent performance of Biofinity toric to MyDay toric.”

This expansion increases the current parameter range for MyDay toric by nearly 70%, according to a CooperVision press release. MyDay toric will be available in October in nearly 4,400 prescription options ranging from -10 D to +8 D.

“It’s a lot of work to transfer one design onto another platform,” Lazon told Healio. “But this lens is stable. It does not rotate. It is easy to fit. It doesn’t take a lot of chair time. It’s a very comfortable lens as far as vision and comfort. It takes the same amount of time when fitting as a single vision lens.”

“Doctors say they have to put in more time, and the patient won’t see any better if there’s a low amount of astigmatism,” Andrews told Healio. “Research shows just the opposite. Low astigmats can pick up six to eight letters on the chart with correction.

“There’s a relationship between vision and physical discomfort,” Andrews continued. “Studies show if patients are improperly corrected, they’ll feel physical discomfort. The dropout rate for toric lenses is four times that of spherical.”

CooperVision also introduced MyDay Energys daily disposable contact lenses at the conference.

Specially designed for digital device use, the MyDay Energys uses the single vision aspheric lens design initially introduced in CooperVision’s Biofinity Energys lenses, according to a company press release.

“MyDay Energys will launch soon,” Andrews told Healio. “It will be an easy migration from one lens to another.”

Andrews also told Healio that applications for its Best Practices initiative will be accepted through early November.

The program, which was launched in 2015, recognizes optometric practices that advance the profession through innovation, industry leadership and the provision of an exceptional patient experience, according to a press release from the company.
