Increase in screen time, eye dryness during pandemic

The majority of survey respondents indicated an increase in the amount of time they spend viewing electronic displays, and nearly half of those reported experiencing dryness.

An online survey of 1,005 U.S. adults conducted by Ipsos indicated that 80% of respondents reported an increase in screen time as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alcon said in a press release. Forty-five percent of these individuals said they experienced ocular dryness as a result, and 60% reported concerns over the impact this will have on their vision.

Alcon said it rolled out the survey in recognition of Dry Eye Awareness month in July.

The company also announced that Systane Hydration Preservative-Free lubricant eye drops, its latest product in the Systane family, is now available nationwide and recommended it for these patients who need a lubricating drop more frequently with their increased screen time and ocular dryness.
