LAS VEGAS – ABB Optical Group announced here at Vision Expo West that it is rebranding and reorganizing its business into three new groups: ABB Contact Lens, ABB Labs and ABB Business Solutions.

“The company already has tremendous presence and is a market leader and well respected in the contact lens industry,” Darcy Blessing, ABB Optical’s senior director of marketing and communications told Primary Care Optometry News. “Our new mission is to make sure we’re seeing clearly the competitive needs of the independent optometrist.

“Those needs are not just supply and distribution,” she continued. “We understand they’re competing against online retailers, and it’s affecting how they serve their patients.”

ABB Contact Lens is an authorized distributor for all major soft contact lens manufacturers and a manufacturer itself of custom soft and gas-permeable contact lenses, the company said in a press release.

ABB Labs offers brand-name digital lens designs and antireflective coatings as well as its own proprietary products. Its laboratories feature multiple fabrication lines, onsite AR coating capabilities, lens finishing centers and frame distribution.

ABB Business Solutions provides operational solutions to help optometrists attract and retain patients and drive efficiencies in their practices, the company said.

ABB also announced its expansion into Canada.

“Canadian optometrists are experiencing issues now that U.S. optometrists experienced 20 years ago, with no single source to go to for all optical needs,” Blessing said.

Beginning in 2020, ABB Optical will distribute contact lenses in Canada, according to a company press release.
