In this video, Barbara Blodi, MD, discusses advancements in gene therapy for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration.

At the ASRS annual meeting, several sessions revolved around gene therapy in clinical trials from various companies and delivery of the therapy.

“Gene therapy can be done safely,” Blodi, professor in the department of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, said.

“I have a lot of patients ask me about gene therapy, and now I can tell them that it’s definitely underway,” she said. “Now it’s figuring out what’s the best way to provide this sort of gene therapy for the patient.”
