FRANKFURT, Germany — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS winter meeting, Aylin Kiliç, MD, predicts that customized additive strategies will be the future of refractive surgery.

Laser procedures work well but shave tissue and weaken the cornea. Conversely, allograft corneal inlays are reversible, fast and biocompatible and do not alter the biomechanical properties of the cornea. They are the best-suited solution for emmetropic presbyopes as well as patients with keratoconus.

“My mission is to stop keratoplasty for keratoconus patients by using allograft implantation,” Kiliç said.
