FRANKFURT, Germany — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ESCRS winter meeting, Matthew Stahl, MD, speaks about a survey that highlighted the widespread misunderstanding of U.K. medical titles among patients.
“The word ‘trainee,’ patients did not like that and generally thought trainees were the most junior doctors, despite some trainees in the U.K., through the ST6-ST7 level, maybe having done over 1,000 cataract operations independently,” he said.
The titles are a modifiable factor, and an alternative system that better portrays the level of experience of ophthalmologists in training should be adopted.
