Key takeaways:

  • Ophthalmologists should make sure that they own their websites.
  • Some digital marketing companies retain ownership of their clients’ websites.

In this Healio Video Perspective, Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS, and David Evans, PhD, MBA, discuss common mistakes ophthalmologists should be aware of regarding their professional websites.

According to Evans, physicians must confirm that they own their websites. Transitioning a website after a move to a new digital marketing company can be difficult if the physician does not have the ownership rights.

“Even though [the doctors] pay a high monthly fee, as it turns out, they don’t own the website,” he said. “The company retains ownership of it, and it’s kind of in the fine print. So, if we have a potential client that wants to come work with us, that’s the first question we ask: ‘Do you own your website?’”
