SEATTLE — In this video from the ASRS meeting, Rishi P. Singh, MD, FASRS, discusses the results of recent extension studies of pegcetacoplan for the treatment of geographic atrophy.

“The drug appears to be continually effective in the extension studies, which is reassuring,” Singh, president of Martin North and South Hospitals and professor of ophthalmology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, said.

However, the American Society of Retina Specialists Research and Safety in Therapeutics Committee presented reports of retinal occlusive vasculitis in some patients who received pegcetacoplan.

“We know that there is a small but certainly measurable number of patients who had retinal occlusive vasculitis and changes in vision after these treatments,” Singh said. “I think there are ongoing studies right now to look at the source of this. There has not been a source identified as of yet.”
