Key takeaways:

  • Iheezo is an FDA-approved ocular anesthetic.
  • It is reimbursable by Medicare and commercial insurance.

SAN DIEGO — In this Healio Video Perspective from the ASCRS meeting, William F. Wiley, MD, speaks about Iheezo, the first ocular anesthetic approved by the FDA in nearly 14 years.

“It has been a great addition to our protocol for cataract surgery, but it can also be used for any ocular surgery,” he said.

Iheezo (chloroprocaine hydrochloride ophthalmic gel 3%, Harrow) has a permanent J-code that will enable reimbursement by Medicare and many commercial insurances.

In the clinical trials, no patient administered Iheezo needed supplemental anesthesia to complete the procedure.
