Key takeaways:

  • In a study, several calculation formulas were used with the Carlevale scleral fixation IOL.
  • Best outcomes were obtained with vergence formulas.
  • Results with specific formulas depend on axial length.

VILAMOURA, Portugal — At the ESCRS winter meeting, Agnieszka Dyrda, MD, shared her experience with the Carlevale IOL from MD TECH as a secondary sutureless scleral fixation option.

She presented a study in which several IOL calculation formulas were compared, and best refractive outcomes were obtained with the third-generation vergence formulas.

“Axial length should also guide our choice. In average eyes, the best results are achieved with Hoffer Q, and in the long eyes, the best performance is with the Hoffer Q and SRK/T,” she said.
