Speaker shares various uses for hyaluronic acid fillers

KOLOA, Hawaii — It is helpful to use thicker filler products when dealing with thicker skin, according to a speaker here.
“In thin skin, I use something with a cannula that is a little bit more forgiving,” Keith A. Marcus, MD, said at Hawaiian Eye 2023. “In thicker skin, I will use something that is more structured.”
Marcus discussed pearls for three hyaluronic acid fillers: Juvéderm Volux (Allergan Aesthetics), RHA Redensity (Revance Aesthetics) and Restylane Contour (Galderma).
Because Juvéderm Volux is firmer and more structural, it is important to inject deep on the bone in small aliquots, he said. The filler includes “great” tissue projection and a higher hyaluronic acid content of 25 mg/mL. Practical areas for Juvéderm use include the jawline, chin and temple.
RHA Redensity, which has an indication for moderate to severe dynamic perioral rhytids, is useful for fine, etched lines and infraorbital hollows, he said.
“It is a very fine line filler. It is easy not to get the Tyndall effect, and we can put it superficially truly in the dermis without having much concern,” Marcus said.
Marcus said Restylane Contour is a “nice broad volumizer” that is helpful for the medial cheek area.
When addressing the tear trough, Marcus said he prefers to use Restylane-L, RHA Redensity or Juvéderm Volbella.
“It’s a safe area,” he said. “As long as you know anatomy, tear troughs are one of the safest areas to inject.”
