A new annual medical conference will focus on the topic of antimicrobial resistance, organizers announced Friday.
The Infectious Diseases Society of America and American Society for Microbiology (ASM) are developing the conference to “explore the latest advances in antimicrobial drug discovery and development, mechanisms of resistance and pharmacological aspects, among other topics,” according to the announcement.
The conference will be held for the first time in the United States in early 2026 and will be co-chaired by Cesar Arias, MD, PhD, MSc, chief of infectious diseases at Houston Methodist Hospital, and Greg Moeck, PhD, senior vice president for microbiology at Venatorx Pharmaceuticals.
More details about the conference are expected to be announced early next year, IDSA and ASM said.
An similar conference, the World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress, has been held annually since 2015.
New estimates published earlier this year suggest that tens of millions of people could die from resistant infections by 2050 without new improvements to antibiotics and heath care.
