SAN ANTONIO — The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology announced a new leadership program aimed at developing the next generation of infection preventionists.

The 18-month program will include mentoring and assistance with certification, and will provide leadership opportunities that can then be applied in participants’ own work settings, APIC president Tania Bubb, PhD, RN, CIC, FAPIC, senior director of infection control at Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center, told Healio at the association’s annual meeting

The first group of 10 participants will be chosen next year and start the program in September 2025. They will be chosen specifically from racial, ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds that are underrepresented in the leadership profile infection prevention and control, Bubb said.
