PHILADELPHIA — Is the public health workforce ready for the next pandemic?
According to Jonas Nguh, PhD, MSN, RN, president-elect of the Maryland Public Health Association, the answer is no.
Before a roundtable presentation on the topic at the World Anti-Microbial Resistance Congress, Nguh said there is still work to be done to bolster the workforce before the next pandemic.
“What we have is a whole lot of knee-jerk reaction where we’re doing things very piecemeal sized and very fragmented, and there’s not a whole lot of strategic planning where we’re thinking 4, 5, 10 years down the road,” he said. “We really need to come to the table and work comprehensively and see how we can address many of the multiple issues that the pandemic brought in.”
