Breast cancer survivors who participated in a remote personalized exercise program experienced modest improvements in quality of life, according to results from the eMouvoir trial presented at ESMO Congress.

Patients experienced the most improvement in quality of life during the 4-month intensive phase, which “tapered off” during the later 8-month maintenance phase, Jennifer Ligibel, MD, associate professor at Harvard Medical School and director of the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, told Healio in a video interview.

“This study demonstrates, first, that it is feasible to implement an exercise program that’s delivered completely remotely,” Ligibel said. “It showed short-term benefits during the intervention itself.

“I think we have a little bit more to learn about how to really scale exercise programs to meet the needs of our [patients with breast cancer],” she added.
