CHICAGO — In this Healio video exclusive, Sandra Swain, MD, FACP, FASCO, discusses identifying and finding your passion as a woman in medicine and the importance of uplifting young women researchers.

“If you have a passion, you should follow it — but first figure out what your passion is,” Swain, associate dean for research development at Georgetown University Medical Center; vice president of MedStar Genetic Medicine for MedStar Health in Washington, D.C.; and professor of medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine, said.

Having experienced a lack of women mentors on her own career path, Swain founded the Women Who Conquer Cancer foundation to help support the younger generation.

“Over the past 10 years, we’ve raised almost $10million for young women researchers, which is really exciting. It’s exciting to see what it does for them. It raises their confidence. It really gives them a start in their career,” she said.
