CHICAGO — In this Healio video exclusive, Hansa Bhargava, MD, talks with Eve Bloomgarden, MD, about finding and following your passions, and the importance of obtaining a different perspective at the Women in Medicine Summit.

Earlier this year after nearly 13 years in clinical practice, Bloomgarden took a step away to pursue her dreams and find her sense of self.

“Part of it was knowing that my true north was in a different direction and feeling like I needed to be able to have the room and the flexibility to really follow my dreams a bit better... I wasn’t able to be my best self and treat my patients the way I wanted to,” Bloomgarden, an expert in thyroid cancer and autoimmunity, told Bhargava, chief clinical strategy & innovation officer at Healio. “Within the last year, I spent time unpacking my own motivations and where my talents lay... Having the ability to really think outside of the box and look at problems from a different angle has helped me define who I really am.

“If something doesn’t feel right and you can take a step away, there’s nothing really like getting perspective to really be able to put you onto a completely different path, and maybe it’s a much better path than you were on,” she said.
