PHILADELPHIA — In this video, Michael Fisher, MD, discusses the results of a natural history study he presented at the International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology.

The prospective multicenter study observed the treatment and clinical management of children with newly diagnosed optic pathway gliomas (OPGs) associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) to evaluate the prognostic factors for visual outcomes to decide which patients need treatment.

“This was our first unveil of the baseline analyses, so we didn’t present the primary outcome which is visual outcomes,” Fisher, a professor of pediatrics at University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, said. “[We evaluated] whether there were any factors at diagnosis which impacted on [their] likelihood to have abnormal vision at presentation, but also the factors right now that are associated thus far with needing treatment.”
