Jonathan T. Yang, MD, PhD, has been appointed associate vice chair for clinical research and developmental therapeutics in the department of radiation oncology at NYU Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center.
Yang also will serve as director of the metastatic disease service in the department of radiation oncology, as well as director of clinical research at the Brain and Spine Tumor Center.
“I’m honored to join NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, where we have so many dedicated clinicians and researchers already doing great work in the field of metastatic disease,” Yang said in a press release. “Collaborating with this team will allow us all to learn more, and ultimately create more effective and safer treatments that benefit our patients.”
Yang’s clinical and research focus has been on improving treatment for patients with metastatic cancer. His work has focused on leptomeningeal disease, a form of metastasis in the thin layers of tissue and fluid that cover the spinal cord and brain.
In his role at the Brain and Spine Tumor Center, Yang will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide treatment for brain tumors, including gliomas, astrocytomas, primary central nervous system lymphoma, pituitary adenoma and metastatic brain tumors.
Yang previously held faculty and leadership positions at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and University of Washington School of Medicine.
“Dr. Yang brings an impressive wealth of experience and expertise to our team, and we are fortunate to have him join us,” Alec Kimmelman, MD, PhD, Anita Steckler and Joseph Steckler chair of radiation oncology and director of Perlmutter Cancer Center, said in the release. “I am confident that Dr. Yang will contribute significantly to the continued success in the fields of radiation oncology and brain and spine tumor care.”
