Ohio State appoints surgical oncology division chief

Susan Tsai, MD, has been appointed chief of the division of surgical oncology at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center — Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

Tsai, whose appointment takes effect Nov. 1, also will serve as professor of surgery in the college of medicine.

“Dr. Tsai embodies the qualities of a strong leader with recognized accomplishments in the areas of clinical care, scholarship, research and academic teaching,” Timothy Pawlik, MD, PhD, chair of the department of surgery, said in a press release. “Her contributions to surgical oncology and her track record as a national leader make her an excellent fit for our division. I could not be happier to welcome her to Ohio State.”

Tsai is recognized for her expertise in gastrointestinal oncology. Her research has focused on blood-based biomarkers and precision medicine clinical trials in pancreatic cancer.

She currently serves as professor in the division of surgical oncology at Medical College of Wisconsin.

Tsai also serves as president of Society of Asian Academic Surgeons. She is active in American Surgical Association and Society of Clinical Surgeons, and she serves on the editorial boards of various major scientific journals and national committees.
