Hagop Kantarjian, MD, received Society of Hematologic Oncology’s Emil J Freireich Distinguished Pioneer Award.

The award recognizes society members who significantly advanced the organization’s mission to promote research, education, prevention, clinical studies and optimal care in hematologic malignancies and related disorders.

The award includes a $5,000 honorarium, a plaque and support to attend Society of Hematologic Oncology’s Annual Meeting.

Kantarjian also delivered a plenary lecture.

Kantarjian is professor and chair of the department of leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He also serves as Samsung distinguished leukemia chair in cancer medicine at MD Anderson, and as a nonresident fellow in health policy at Rice University Baker Institute.
