BALTIMORE — In this video exclusive, Susan Weiner, MS, RDN, CDN, CDCES, FADCES, talks with Jing Wang, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, about a newly developed metric for assessing glucose — the glycemia risk index.

Weiner is owner and clinical director of Susan Weiner Nutrition, PLLC, in North Bellmore, NY, an Endocrine Today Editorial Board member and the Diabetes in Real Life column editor. Wang is the dean and a professor at Florida State University College of Nursing.

The glycemia risk index — GRI — is a single score calculated from the seven metrics included with continuous glucose monitor tracings. It has advantages over time in range because it folds in measures of risks for severity of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, Wang said.

The GRI is available for use by clinicians and CGM users now at www.diabetestechnology.org/gri.
