LOS ANGELES — In this video exclusive, Caroline Nguyen, MD, assistant professor of clinical medicine at Keck School of Medicine at USC, offers pearls for caring for pregnant women with thyroid cancer.

For patients with a history of treated thyroid cancer, “How your patient is doing before pregnancy is a very good indication of how they’re going to do during pregnancy and in the postpartum period,” Nguyen said. Thyroid-stimulation hormone suppression should be continued.

Additionally, postponing treatment for cancer discovered during pregnancy has not been shown to alter outcomes, Nguyen said.
