VIDEO: Sleep plays key role in cardiometabolic health
BOSTON — In this video exclusive, Milena Pavlova, MD, of Brigham and Women's Hospital and assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, discusses effects of sleep on cardiometabolic health.
Sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, have been linked to cardiac events, such as arrythmias, sudden cardiac death and myocardial infarction, according to Pavlova. Lack of sleep can have an especially large effect on metabolic health, including the development of diabetes and weight control.
