BALTIMORE — In this video exclusive, Robert Gabbay, MD, PhD, FACP, chief medical officer and senior vice president of the Joslin Diabetes Center, highlights recent changes in health care that are leading to new opportunities for certified diabetes educators.

Changes in reimbursement and a shift to value-based care, for example, have opened the door for CDE involvement in practice coaching, care management and augmenting digital care, which require “a skillset that many educators already have,” Gabbay told Endocrine Today. He explains the potential for these opportunities and the “bright future” of the field.
