Healio’s editorial staff has garnered seven awards in the annual competition of the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE).

The awards are as follows:

  • Healio Gastroenterology – January 2017 article “Onsite with OpenBiome,” written by Katrina Altersitz and Adam Leitenberger, won the Silver Award for Best Profile.
  • Infectious Disease News – January 2017 through December 2017 “Infectious Disease News 30th Anniversary,” written by the Infectious Disease News Staff, won the Bronze Award for Best Feature Article Series.
  • Primary Care Optometry News – August, September, and October 2017 “PCON Reports,” written by Abigail Sutton, won the Bronze Award for Best Regular Department.

Endocrine Today’s award-winning article focuses on the impact of “double diabetes,” which Francine Kaufman, MD, former president of the American Diabetes Association and chief medical officer and vice president of global medical, clinical and health affairs for Medtronic Diabetes, characterized as a condition that causes type 1 diabetes patients with overweight or obesity to display such hallmarks of type 2 diabetes as insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidemia.

Today, a clinician is likely to have a patient with type 1 diabetes with a host of type 2-related comorbidities, bringing unique risks and requiring more careful management. Endocrine Today Staff Writer Regina Schaffer interviewed leading experts on the risks, treatment options and challenges of “double diabetes.” Visit this link to read the full article and comment on this issue.

ASHPE recognizes outstanding editorial and design excellence and achievement in health care publications. The annual competition provides an opportunity for editors to measure their efforts and publications against the best the health care sector has to offer.

“Our staff’s ongoing efforts have earned these exceptional honors and I am ecstatic that their hard work is recognized,” said Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, Chief Content Officer of Healio. “Earning these awards is a demonstration of our dedication to provide physicians with timely, relevant news and information.”
