CHICAGO — In this video exclusive, Tamara Wexler, MD, PhD, neuroendocrinologist and reproductive endocrinologist, and clinical assistant professor in the department of rehabilitation medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, discusses the high incidence of pituitary dysfunction following traumatic brain injury, or TBI, and testing and hormone replacement for the condition.

“Happily, there is increasing awareness of negative sequelae that can stem from TBI, but the pituitary aspects of that are not given sufficient awareness,” Wexler said.

Studies of the condition are small and use different diagnostic tests and different definitions for low pituitary hormone levels. Still, Wexler suggests a good protocol for diagnosing and treating these patients.
